IF YOU ARE READY TO ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE TO BECOME A NEW JERSEY STATE TROOPER, ARE YOU READY TO:
- Live at our residential training academy (Mon-Fri) for 24 weeks.
- Prepare yourself mentally and physically for a rigorous program that will test your limits.
- Work within a disciplined paramilitary organization.
- Participate in our adult-based learning methodology, which results in written and practical assessments, scenario-based training, and research assignments.
- Engage in our firearms training and qualification with our issued pistol, patrol rifle, and shotgun.
- Participate in our water safety program focused on proper techniques, water treading and survival, and basic life-saving skills.
ONCE YOU BECOME A TROOPER, ARE YOU READY TO:

- Always exhibit professionalism and be a role model for others
- Work outside in all weather conditions
- Work shift work, including weekends and holidays
- Work independently and possess the ability to make responsible decisions without direction in stressful conditions
- Place yourself in harm's way to assist others and perform hazardous tasks in dangerous environments
- Maintain your composure even when subjected to vulgar or profane language
- Investigate violent and vicious crimes
- Investigate traffic crashes, including fatal crashes and severe injury crashes
- Provide prompt medical care to persons who have been severely injured
